Memories of Joan and Meredith Kingshott 11 July 2025 I cannot remember when Judy and I first met Joan with Judy’s cousin/uncle Meredith, but it was over 50 years ago. Meredith had become a friend of mine since the time I first met Judy in 1959, and we shared a passion for classical music. A very memorable interaction with Joan and Merd was in 1991, during my sabbatical year at the Royal College of Defence Studies in London. They were able to stay for a week in our 3-bedroom flat in Pimlico, close to Victoria Station, and Merd quickly found a series of ‘old record shops’ all over London, visiting them via the Underground railway network - to proudly return with numerous very old 78 records! They both enjoyed their European tour, and Joan saw a lot of London with Judy. Later Meredith and Joan visited and stayed with us, firstly on our 1000 hectare beef, sheep and cropping property at Canowindra NSW, and several times later at our ‘retirement farm of 48 hectares near Yass. There Merd helped me with fencing and other farm work, and Joan helped Judy with domestic and alpaca chores. We always enjoyed visits from the Kingshott couple, and often visited them during our periodic visits to Melbourne. In more recent years I know that Meredith’s declining health led to considerable difficulty for Joan, who was not in good health herself. but throughout Joan provided heroic support for them both under sometimes arduous situations. My daughter Kerrie and son Geoff also had a long friendship with Joan and Meredith, and they last visited Joan seven months ago. On Joan’s passing, I think of her as a warm and caring person who was always good company. I will miss her. Bob Richardson Bowning NSW
