Micksta Thanks for the nights where we'd get home from work and sit down and drink tea. You always gave full undivided attention. Thanks for cracking me up with your cheeky humour and showing me it's possible to make everyone in the room laugh without putting anyone down. I didn't realise that was a skill until meeting you. Thanks for showing true kindness, and being the coolest guy in the room. Thanks for showing me how to get bigger scoopes at an icecream store, how to get free drinks at a nightclub and how to 'make it' at the local cafe. Swells best customer. Thanks for holding me up when I was struggling and hyping me up when I was trying something for the first time. Thanks for think tanking random business ideas with me. It was a pleasure to come home to your new cologne scents with your meth like set up in the laundry, or hear about your endeavours to make surf hats with helmets. This will go far. Thanks for surfing with me, calling me stridor (in the channel) and responding to maverick, jamming to some Chris Stapleton in front room and for being the best pub pool partner in the business. VIC Country never stood a chance when you were on. You just needed 8 beers. Thanks for being you, being authentic and true. Will miss you more than you'll know mate. Sam

I had the pleasure of meeting Micky late December 2018 in Sri Lanka. I have fond memories of playing cards, having a beer and eating a late night roti cramped in the back of a rickshaw. I always smile when one of the pictures from that week pops up on my phone and was happy to see him living life to the fullest from afar and having plenty more adventures. In that short time I could tell Micky was a beautiful human and am thankful I was able to cross paths with him.

Mad-Dog Mick, I’ll forever look back fondly on our many years working together cutting grass and pruning trees for CM Landscapes. We may not have been the best at trimming shrubs, but we sure knew how to spend a day in the sun speaking books, surfing and music. I was always amazed at your insightful perspective on life. You possessed an infectious wisdom and appetite for living that taught me so much about myself. I can’t thank you enough for the impact you had on me. Your loss of life will be felt so deeply by your friends, family and your communities. To Pat and the entire Hurst family, I extend my deepest condolences. Love never ends, Mick. You’ll live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing you.

I am so fortunate that I was able to spend time getting to know Micky at work. All the boys reflect on what a fun time it was, working hard, sharing laughs and stories, and just figuring it all out as we went along. Micky was such a beautiful soul, and he would always find the positive in someone and something, and never a bad word was spoken about anyone else and that has stayed with me. A deep thinker, with an infectious smile who you couldn’t help but be happy around Mick. Sending all my love to Pat and the Hurst family on behalf of the CM crew.

Micky, So many thoughts. I’m so sad that the world has lost such a kind, caring, and genuinely considerate soul. Somebody who always cared and listened and asked questions and made people feel like what they had to say mattered. Your soft-spoken charm, quiet wit, humility, and constant smile had this way of making others feel special. You were, and always will be, one of the really really good ones. Most of all, I feel so bloody grateful that you played a part in my life. I am so thankful for the laughs, the beers, the music, and the simple moments. I learnt a lot from you, more than words can really say, and I cannot wait to carry that with me in my life going forward. Looking forward to jamming again when I see you next ❤️

We are so grateful for the time we spent with you Micky and will cherish the memories of karaoke, beers on the balcony at the Hurst’s and family dinners. Micky, none of this feels real. I keep waiting to wake up from this bad dream, struggling to wrap my head around the fact that we won’t see that cheeky smile again. You were the kindest, most down to earth soul, a little brother who, despite being the youngest, somehow became the one we all looked up to. It was the little things that defined you. I’m going to miss those random 'hey' texts that came with no context but always managed to make me smile. You had this effortless way of making people feel important, whether it was a stranger or family, you truly listened with your whole heart. It was just natural for you. There was a certain magic in how you approached things. You lived life at your own speed, never rushing, but always arriving exactly where you needed to be. You chased your dreams and embraced every good time without ever losing that thoughtful, loving side of yourself. You proved that you don't have to be the loudest to leave the deepest mark. 27 years wasn't nearly enough. We are so lucky to have had that time with you, and though you were taken far too early, the mark you left on us is permanent. We are going to keep your memory alive every single day and carry that kindness you showed us into everything we do. We love you so much, Micky. We’ll never forget you.

Micky, I’ll forever be sitting at the dining table, listening for the squeak of the gate, waiting for it to swing open. Waiting to see you wander in with that familiar spring in your step, that cheeky grin on your face, and a heart so full of love it filled the entire room before you even spoke a word. Effortless in the surf. A beautiful runner – when I could convince you to join me. A talented musician that meant somehow my guitars sounded far better in your hands than they ever did in mine. An accomplished urban planner. A budding entrepreneur. I’ll always be proud of what you achieved – but none of that compares to the human you were. I’ll never forget how you made me feel, Micky. That’s what made you extraordinary. You were authentically you – kind, caring, attentive, empathetic, humble, adventurous, funny, and so much fun. You made moments lighter. You made life better. The youngest in our family – but the one we all looked up to so damn much. I’ll always be sitting at that table, waiting for the gate to open. You might not walk through it in the way you used to, but your smile, your energy, your love – they never leave. We’ll never forget them. Having you as a brother has been the privilege of my life. I can’t imagine this world without you. I’m always your big brother. And you’re always my little brother. I love you so much, Micky ❤️

Micky, you were the most beautiful young man who held a very special place in our hearts from the moment we became your neighbours. We will forever miss your bright welcoming smile, your pure soul, kind heart and tremendous genuine warmth. You were one of the finest young men we have ever had the privilege of knowing and we feel truly blessed to have witnessed you develop from a gorgeous 12 year old boy into a brilliant young man. We will cherish every memory we have of you. From our chats in the street about your work, holidays, adventures and achievements, etc and your genuine interest in our lives, to seeing you progress through your teens to adulthood, seeing you walk to school each day and practice your skateboarding up and down the hill, listening to you practice your music and hearing your midnight NYE escapades and loving how humble and patient you always were with our daughter, Hannah and her friends knocking on your door to tell you how ‘hot’ you were. All special memories for us, but our most precious of all was spending time with you whilst you trained in our home gym. Such an active, polite, respectful young man. Our ‘Michael’s Gym’ sign is now also dedicated to you Micky. You truly had a wonderful impact on so many people. You were one in a million. May you now forever rest in peace Micky and shine down on those who loved you so dearly. Thank you for being you. Our lives are richer for having known you 💙 We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Pete, Cath, Tom, Madi, Pat and extended family and friends. You are all in our hearts 💜💜

Michael Geoffrey Hurst died tragically while snowboarding on the slopes of Niseko in Japan. Michael was dearly loved and will be forever remembered by his mother Catherine, his father Peter, and his siblings Thomas, Madeleine and Patrick along with their partners Tessa, Olivia and Nick. Michael is deeply missed by his dearly loved partner Ella and her family, his grandparents Geoffrey and Patricia, and all of his extended family. Michael’s spirit will live on in the memories of his many friends. Micky lived life to the fullest. He cared deeply, gave generously and was always quick with a joke and a smile. His calm, gentle and caring nature touched everyone who was lucky enough to have him in their lives. He has left this world a better place and lived a life filled with special people, happiness, music, waves and adventure. May Michael’s kind and gentle soul rest in peace. May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I’ll carry our memories with me forever. The laughter, the dancing, the camping, the coffee, the dinners, and taking it a little too far on nights out. These are the little moments that somehow meant the most. Juc Christmas will never feel the same without you, but we’ll keep it going in your honour. We all have special memories of you at many family gatherings and celebrations. We loved hearing about each one of your entrepreneurial ideas and your wonderful travels. Your ability to really listen and genuinely connect with people was exceptional- a true reflection of the beautiful young man you were, inside and out. I love you so much, Micky ❤️ View full message

Micky, Mick, Micksta, Uncle Sink. The calmness you brought into this crazy world was something rare and truly special. Effortlessly cool, always yourself, always genuine — with that perfect hint of cheek. We’re going to miss you deeply, mate. May we all carry a bit of Mick in us and hold tight to the swell coffees, the Floodlights, the surfs where we watched you glide, and those few but magic jams. Forever grateful for you View full message

Great to have known you Mick and deeply saddened for your family and friends by your untimely passing. Going snowboarding in Japan was a dream trip so what better way to leave this mortal coil. May plenty of waves and snow await upstairs. Read full message here.

You are all in our hearts 💜💜 Read full message here.

View full tribute

How lucky are we to have known and loved you Micky. A man so gentle, so kind. You made everyone around you feel special. Like the room felt warmer just because you were in it. I’ll carry our memories with me forever. The laughter, the dancing, the camping, the coffee, the dinners, and taking it a little too far on nights out. These are the little moments that somehow meant the most. Juc Christmas will never feel the same without you, but we’ll keep it going in your honour. I’ll miss your cheeky grin, your laugh and your presence more than words can say. Rest easy, The BOTA, Micky Love you always, Holly 🤍🤍 View full message

Micky, Shared many surfs with you, unplanned and by coincidence but what happy surprises they were for me seeing your joyful smile in the lineup. Will always be in pure admiration of what an amazing, kind, caring, humble person you are. And what a great surfer!? You had such a positive impact on so many. My love goes out to the Hurst Family and all Friends. Hope you’re getting waves Mick! Read full message here.

Micky I’ll miss your laugh, your self deprecating humour, your pause before speaking, your undivided attention. I’m going to miss hoping in your car to go for a surf, the angels on repeat in the red Corolla or bunny hoping around juc in the Navara. I have great memories of sitting on the couch at Shoreham, listening to you play my requests of Zach Bryan, pist idiots and floodlights. I’ll hold onto the late nights we spent dancing around the campfire or my engagement party singing karaoke and turning the microphone cord into a skipping rope. You were the life of the party, there until the very end. Ending the nights, arm over each other, yelling “I love ya mate!” Rest easy mick, you will be missed ❤️ View full message

How lucky we all are that you chose to spend some of your precious years thriving in the Surf Coast! I am so grateful to have your cheeky smile permanently imprinted in some of my favourite summer memories. Thank you for being so consistently kind, calm, sweet, funny and genuine. It was such a pleasure to be around you, always. I still remember how devastated we all were when you broke the news that you were moving back to Melbourne.. Wednesday Parma night at the juc pub really took a hit, as did the whole community of people that loved you deeply. Anyone who has spent even just a second with you is better for it 💙 Read full message here.

Micky, even though we only knew each other for a small fraction of our lives, I hold you as one of my closest mates. I’ll cherish the time spent living with you and the memories made forever. Starting the day talking what’s going on in the world or the direction the wind was blowing over a aeropress coffee was the best. You were a kind, caring and compassionate man who would always put others before himself. I feel privileged to be able to call you a friend. VC vs VM forever. Micky, From the first time we met you so many years ago, we were all so impressed by your warmth, kindness, fun loving spirit and genuine interest in everyone you met. We all have special memories of you at many family gatherings and celebrations. We loved hearing about each one of your entrepreneurial ideas and your wonderful travels. Your ability to really listen and genuinely connect with people was exceptional- a true reflection of the beautiful young man you were, inside and out. Your smile, your joy, and your love shone through every moment of Tom and Tess’s wedding, and the way you embraced each member of our family as your own was truly beautiful. We will think of you each time we remember and celebrate that wonderful day. Our hearts and love go out to Cath, Pete, all the Hurst and Harrison families, Ella and her family, and all who knew and loved you Micky. An unimaginable loss. So dearly and deeply loved by all who had the privilege of knowing you. Rest in peace Micky. Robyn, Mark and all the Lockwood family. Read full message here.

They say people don't remember what you said, just how you made them feel. With you Mick, I'll remember both. Your warmth, your genuineness, the way you actually cared about people. All your talents and abilities were just a small part of who you were. This picture was one of my favourite days ever, what a memory. View full message

Micky on the beach during carnivals and training had such a beautiful approach to competition. He is also embedded in my memory from his time working and performing at the Mentone LSC. His singing with his brother Pat, at my daughter Ruby’s 21st in our backyard is something I’ll never forget. Lost too young. All my thoughts to Pete, Cath, Pat, Maddie and Tom.
