Trudy, thank you for being a mentor, colleague, teacher, and friend. You were so talented at everything you did and I was lucky to have first met you when we both helped organise ISSC in 2019. I fondly remember my first surgical rotation as an intern and the laughs we shared. You role modelled how to be an efficient yet thorough and compassionate junior doctor. I will treasure those memories as well as our stylish matching scrub caps as a lasting memento. The world will be a little less bright without you here. It was an honour to have had the privilege of knowing such a special person. Trudy, I remember seeing you in the corridor at work and thinking that you were a total boss. I wish we had had more than a few moments to catch up. Rest in peace, you are so very loved.

If I'd known the last time I saw you was to be forever the last time, there is so much I would have said. I still have your message in my phone giggling that my note was cute when I mentioned 'Plastics Reg the Amazing Dr. Trudy' in our last patient's notes.
I would have written so much more had I known.
You're not just amazing; you're brave, dedicated, beautiful, precious, funny, talented, passionate, hardworking.
You're not just a doctor; you're a teacher, a mentor, a friend and a human being.
I would have hugged you a bit tighter when I greeted you, and even tighter when we said goodbye. Trudy I'll never forget you, and I'll always wear our special orange scrub caps in your memory, but also to remember to be kind and check in with people around me.

If only you could see what you could have offered the world. You achieved so much whilst your mental health conspired against you. You were strong, compassionate and selfless till the end. Your star was still to rise but you had to let go. You are at peace now darling Trudy.

My legacy to you is to create an environment where young doctors can be open without consequence when their mental health is struggling; that they are given time to heal and that they know their worth in the face of immense adversity. I will play Taylor Swift in theatre and forever remember that laugh and I will go to our happy place along the Bass coast to feel close to your spirit.
